OVERCOMING HURDLES HAS NO AGE

A 59-year-old man had been presented in Ruby General Hospital with a right renal Space Occupying Lesion (SOL) in the upper pole of the right kidney and was put under the expert care of Dr. Sujoy Basak (Consultant Urologist). He had a history of Type – 2 Diabetes Mellitus and hypertension. After a thorough evaluation, relevant investigations were done and the CECT revealed a complex cystic lesion at the upper pole of the right kidney. The right renal mass had multiple cysts with the largest being 10 cms. After a detailed discussion with the family and with proper informed consent the gentleman had been posted for surgery. Open right Partial Nephrectomy had been performed with multiple kidney cysts containing fluid. A single solid mass of about 3.5 cm had been found at the right upper pole and was sent for the Frozen section which was found to be of clear margins meaning no cancer cells at the edge of the tissue. The postoperative period had been uneventful and the biopsy revealed clear cell renal cell carcinoma with grade 2, pT1a (Stage 1 tumour that is less than 4 cm and has not metastasized). The gentleman had come to the OPD with a smiling face to meet his consultant who had helped him win his match against cancer.
